PhilosophyWe are all individuals with different ways of seeing the word, that's what makes us interesting and that's what makes our art unique. I don't believe in "I can't", only in opportunities to try something different. Thomas Edison reportedly said that he had not failed in his repeated attempts to create the light bulb, he had just learned hundreds of ways that did not work. That attitude is the kind of belief in self that I want to inspire in my students.
Classroom
My Classroom Management Plan combines a positive classroom environment with structure, limits and responsibilities. I plan to teach self regulation and will make sure that all students are aware of my expectations for behavior, assignments and the climate of our classroom. Research shows that effective communication is important to all relationships, including that of student and teacher. Without communication there is no cooperation and without cooperation student learning will not take place.
Inspiration
Environment
CommunityIt is Important for students to feel as though they are an integral part of the community both in and outside our classroom. As ambassadors of our community (class) it is their responsibility to greet all visitors (including substitutes) to our class and maintain the environment we have agreed upon ESPECIALLY in my absence. Community outreach will play a significant role in tying course content to the cultural diversity of our class, school and community. Parent/guardian questions will be included in the class survey to determine ways in which families can share the art of their culture, vocations and community involvement. Lessons will include the understanding of why these topics are important then the production of art for school and community wide initiatives. Examples would be making posters against bully and advocating standing up for others; a cooperative assignment on emotional issues teenagers face and a mural on tolerance.
